On 12 April 2013 the thirteenth German Big Brother Awards gala was held in Bielefeld, Germany. Organised by EDRi member digitalcourage, the awards featured five winners in different categories. No winners showed up to collect their award - in fact, only three BBAs have been collected since the awards started in 2000.

The Workplace award went to Apple Retail GmbH in Munich, which runs Apple Stores in Germany.

EDRi member FoeBuD staged the twelfth German Big Brother Awards on Friday, 13 April 2012 in Bielefeld, Germany. Seven "winners" were presented, and as in most years, none of these sent a representative to receive their award.

The heavyweight Dutch privacy-infringers of the past year were announced during the ceremony of the Big Brother Awards 2011. The jury selected three winners out of a total of nine nominees: Facebook, Edith Schippers (the Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare and Sports) and the Dutch national police (KLPD). Fred Teeven, Dutch state secretary for Ssecurity and Justice, won the popular vote.

The prizes were awarded in three categories.

Big Brother is everywhere! Numerous institutions, individuals and organizations do not comply with privacy rules and regulations. The Flemish "Liga voor Mensenrechten", an EDRi member and the Wallonian "Ligue des droits de l'hommes" joined forces in their fight against today's "Big Brother" culture!

Therefore, they organized, in collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Brussel and deBuren, the second edition of the "Big Brother Awards" on 26 January 2012, a night on which the nation's largest privacy violators are exposed and privacy protectors are rewarded.

Austrian Big Brother Awards 2011

The 13th consecutive Austrian Big Brother Awards were held in Vienna's Rabenhof Theatre on 25 October 2011. Entrance had to be closed an hour before starting, the theatre was already packed then. 350+ people watched the show inside, many more saw the live stream or assembled at public viewings in Vienna, Graz and Linz.

The event was moderated by Austrian comedian Dieter Chmelar, accompanied by a fantastic showband, plus two more live music acts on stage.

EDRi member Electronic Frontier Finland (Effi) organized the seventh Big Brother Awards (BBA) in Finland on 11 September 2011 as part of the celebration events of Effi's tenth birthday.

Electronic Frontier Finland - Effi - was founded in 2001, a few days before the 9/11 attack, by people who were concerned about freedom of expression and information getting trampled by commercial interests, abuse of copyright, and DRM techniques. In ten years Effi has grown into an organization of nearly 2000 members.

The winners of the Big Brother Awards Italy 2011 were designated on 3 June 2011, in Florence, on the occasion of the e-privacy conference 2011.

Facebook was the "star" of the awards being nominated for several categories and won the price for the "Most Invasive Technology".

The "Lament of the People" award was not given this year, as the votes were equally split between Telecom Italia, Facebook and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
